the poetry is the point

•April 10, 2019 • Leave a Comment

for many years i have kept my poetry and theology books together

i was never really sure why

except that they both, excuse me, kiss the sky

i’ve thought for years, and it crystallises now:

it’s always been the essence i care about – the music the art the poetry

at their height they reach god

but also

their other hand is on your heart

that’s what matters

the shock of union the art(ist) conduit

the power coursing through

but

how do you-artist transmit it?

how do they-audience receive it?

the experience matters

which sounds like the dumbest vaguest corporate speak but

a good jungian would say it’s not what happens, it’s what you make of it

it’s not the curriculum, it’s the interaction with the teacher

when Eliot’s white bones sing sundered to the Rose from beneath the juniper tree, it’s the responsive ache in your own that matters

when the Fifth starts it’s the sudden tension in your ribs

in Tristan the bitter tearing of your heart

in Marvin the twitching of articulated hips

allah is beautiful and he loves beauty

with annihilated ego can we pour his splendour down?

for fujit

in poetry

in music

in life

at Mass

in love

i will focus on your hearts

and it will nourish mine.

it’s underway

Many thanks to all who came. Great concert, great crowds. Now: should we do the next one in February, or June? We have a lovely commission to get us started for a St. Cyril concert; what else?

Concerts

•October 26, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Concerts should be beautiful entertainments. We are musicians hoping to contribute beauty to the world, and to make someone’s day better for hearing us sing. We are not high priests of CVLTVRE but people who enjoy making wonderful things happen.

That said, please come hear us! November 14, 7 PM, Newburyport, MA, at the First Religious Society. November 15, 3PM, Church of Our Saviour, Brookline, MA.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Lobet den Herrn
Antoine Busnoys’ Missa L’homme Armé
Ralph Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor
Heitor Villa-Lobos Bendita Sabedoria

…maybe in that order.

Admission is by suggested donations:
$20 adult
$15 student/senior
$10 starving artists
$50 families

I made it to the bank. Therefore… cheques may be made out to Joshua Slater, or to Fujit.

Wow, this choir rocks. The sound sparkles in the middle and soars on the bottom. Ah, excitement!
